Our Impact Report

At Chance to Shine, we work to accurately measure the effect we are having in the areas in which we deliver. We work closely with our County Board partners to assess the impact that we are having on the children and young adults who are benefitting from getting the opportunity to play the sport.

Our Work

In September 2021-August 2022:

  • We worked with 563,012 young people
  • There was a 50/50 gender split in our participants

Chance to Shine Schools

  • We delivered in 4,022 primary schools
  • We delivered in 1,600 schools where a higher than average proportion of pupils are eligible for free school meals
  • We delivered in 202 secondary schools 

Street Cricket

  • We delivered Street projects 197 locations
  • 82% of Street participants are from ethnically diverse backgrounds
  • 65% of Street participants live in the 30% most deprived areas of England

Our Outcomes

In order to understand what cricket can do to support young people, we monitor our impact on the following outcome areas (click on them to see the results):

Creating Opportunities

  • Coaches inspire children in schools and communities all year round
  • We take cricket to areas with fewer opportunities to play
  • Teachers are trained to sustain cricket in schools
  • Children are supported to continue playing at cricket clubs and in their community

Physical Wellbeing

  • Through cricket, children develop a positive relationship with sport
  • They have a fun experience, learn the game and develop their skills
  • They are confident in their abilities and understand the benefit of taking part
  • They continue playing in school, at a club or in their community
  • Personal Development

Mental Wellbeing

  • Children are happy and confident
  • They develop self-esteem and resilience

Social Wellbeing

  • Children have friends and role models
  • Children feel connected to their area and community
