The latest Covid-19 restrictions announced by the Government in the last week have implications for the delivery of Chance to Shine programmes.

The guidance on recreational physical activity outside of a school setting means that the Chance to Shine Street programme is halted from today (Thursday 5 November) until further notice. We know that many of the young people we work with live in communities that have been the most affected by the pandemic. Chance to Shine will continue to help young people to stay active during this new period of lockdown to ensure that their physical and mental wellbeing is supported.

We are pleased that the Chance to Shine Schools programme will continue as it has done since the academic year started in September. Since delivery in schools resumed, our coaches have been following strict guidance to ensure that all sessions are Covid-secure. We will be working with all of the schools who are scheduled to receive delivery in the coming weeks and making sure that they are comfortable with the planned programme. We hope this will be incredibly valuable for schools and children, to help them to stay active and support their wider wellbeing in tricky circumstances. We welcome the Government’s commitment to enabling children to have the recommended 60 minutes of physical activity every day.

For Schools who are not scheduled to receive Chance to Shine delivery or feel uncomfortable with external partners visiting the premises, the Chance to Shine Virtual Programme offers a series of interactive sessions that can aid teachers to deliver cricket sessions without a coach being present. They are available to access free on the ‘Play’ tab of the Chance to Shine Schools’ Portal.
