More Lord's glory as Greenidge takes Chance to Dine title Chance to Dine returned to the Long Room at Lord’s once again this year. West Indian legend Gordon Greenidge claimed the title with a Caribbean classic Jerk Chicken dish. Greenidge defeated Chris Woakes, James Taylor and Monty Panesar to be crowned champion. The event raises vital funds for Chance to Shine and has become a firm favourite amongst supporters of the charity as well as the players. The four players started the day up in the kitchens of the Mound stand preparing their dishes for the 180 guests later on in the evening. The menu started with Chris Woakes’ Vine Ripened Tomato Bruschetta with homemade pesto and toasted sourdough; the second course, prepared by Monty Panesar, was a ‘MasterChef style’ vegetable Biryani; the guest’s favourite dish then followed – Jerk Chicken Breast and Thigh with sweet potato mash and chunky assorted roast vegetables cooked by Gordon Greenidge; and James Taylor’s sweet course was a Sticky Toffee Pudding, served with salted caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream. The food was washed down by fabulous wines from the newly launched Ian Botham Wines – already gaining rave reviews and high-quality ratings. Each course was subjected to critiquing from the three judges: Giles Coren, food critic for The Times; Chef Ed Baines; and food writer at the Daily Mail, Tom Parker Bowles. The evening was hosted by Chance to Shine Vice President and co-founder Mark Nicholas and supported by Pertemps recruitment. After each course, guests were invited to rate the dish out of nine and the votes were tallied up and the results were as follows: 1st – Gordon Greenidge2nd – Monty Panesar3rd – James Taylor4th – Chris Woakes All proceeds from the evening will go towards supporting Chance to Shine’s mission to give all young people the opportunity to play and learn through cricket.
