A Lords and Commons XI will take on the MCC at Lord's, the home of cricket, for the first time since 12th July 1939.

This year the annual fixture will help raise awareness for the Cricket Foundation's 'Chance to Shine Supported by Brit Insurance' charity. While play is happening the main pitch over 100 Chance to Shine participants will compete in a Kwik cricket tournament.

The Lords and Commons XI will feature Minister for Sport, Hugh Robertson MP, Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Danny Alexander MP, Ed Balls MP Shadow Chancellor and the team is captained by former first class cricketer James Morris MP.

In an MCC team led by former Kent and England all-rounder Matthew Fleming will be the former England Women's Captain Clare Connor.

Fleming, who sits on the MCC Committee, said: "MCC, through the MCC Spirit of Cricket campaign, is a big supporter of Chance to Shine, which does great work in introducing cricket to hundreds of thousands of children each year. With widespread political support for Chance to Shine, it seemed fitting to return the MCC v Lords and Commons fixture back to Lord's after such a long absence in order to highlight the excellent work of the charity.

The Minister for Sport echoed Fleming's statement.

"Chance to Shine is the Cricket Foundation's fantastic charitable campaign that encourages young people from all backgrounds to take up cricket. I hope that as many cricket lovers as possible will come together to raise the profile of this terrific cause."

The MCC currently lead the overall scoreboard with 36 wins to Lords and Commons eight, with 21 of their previous encounters drawn.
