Friday 10th June Down to Earth for Northumberland U11's!!

At Ashington on Friday 10th June, Northumberland U11's lost their first county game of the year against local rivals Cleveland. At the start, all the Northumberland boys were presented with their representative ties a big honour.

Northumberland won the toss and chose to bat first but within the first 10 overs they were 30 odd for not the best start, but when Zac Old scored a quick 22 things may be changing. Zac made a good 37 partnership with Nicholas but Northumberland ended up being bowled out for only 76 not a great score on a decent wicket!!

The Cleveland openers showed how good the track was when they put on 56 not long after, Archie Fletcher too the first wicket a great caught and bowled, 62-1 was the fight back on? As soon as the skipper George Darwood came on to bowl he took a wicket LBW, 69-2 could this be it? After that though it was easy for the Cleveland XI and they ended up scoring the 77 runs needed in 29 overs. Could Northumberland U11's snap back at Cleveland in the return fixture or was County level too much for this Northumberland team return match is Monday 20th June so we'll soon see!!

Sunday 19th June Tight finish to the Alnwick vs Newcastle Wasps U13 match.

At the Medics ground in Heaton (England once played a test match against Australia in Heaton apparently Ed.), on a lovely Sunday morning, Newcastle Wasps took on a strong Alnwick team and unfortunately lost in the last over exciting game, gutting to lose!

Wasps bowled first and Alnwick openers batted well with the team posting a score of 96 in their 20 overs! This would be tough for Wasps as Alnwick were full of Northumberland U13 star players. The Wasps opener of Frankie Cook got off to a great start hitting a 6 and 4 in the first over, but was run out on 19 in the 4 over his led to a mini collapse. But Wasps dug in and took it to the last over we needed 10 off six balls, with 2 wicket left game on! The first ball was smashed for 4 through covers, but unfortunately the next ball smashed into middle stump 4 runs, 1 wicket the next ball clipped off stump and it was game over - Alnwick won but a great game of cricket all round!
