A young lad from Tynemouth, who came through Chance to Shine, has set a new North East Premier League record.

Fourteen year old Ryan Macciocchi bowled his way into the cricketing record books at the start of the month with a superb spell of 9-46 in just 15 overs.

Ryan joined Tynemouth Cricket Club following a year playing cricket through the Chance to Shine scheme at King Edward's Primary School. He now attends John Spence Sports College in North Shields and has also played for Northumberland's under-14 team.

Tynemouth CC chairman Russell Perry played in the match in which the youngster helped defeat local team Hetton Lyons with his spectacular haul of wickets and said: "I was absolutely delighted for him. It was a phenomenal spell of bowling and he thoroughly deserved his wickets."

"Ryan is a great lad with a fantastic attitude to the game. He started playing through our Chance to Shine project six years ago and has come on in leaps and bounds."

"He broke into the third team last year and then forced his way into the seconds this summer. I have no doubt he will go on to play for the first team and he has a great future in the game if he keeps developing the way he is."
