Chance to Shine is a cricket charity whose mission it is to give every young person the opportunity to play, learn and develop through cricket. We want them to learn a love of the game and, in doing so, develop their wider wellbeing. We do this by creating opportunities to play, learn and develop. We have two core programmes – Chance to Shine Schools (ages 5–16) and Street (ages 8-24) which support over half a million children every year.

Chance to Shine coaches inspire children and teachers in thousands of state schools and disadvantaged communities. We work with half a million children each year - nearly half of them are girls.

Street cricket sessions are fast, fun and loud. They take place in the heart of communities all across the country, anywhere from a housing estate to a sports hall - and all year round.

We’re really passionate about what we do but we’re ambitious and we want to do more.

The Chance to Shine Board offers a wealth of expertise, guidance and support to ensure that as a charity we strive to be the best organisation we can be and that we provide high-quality support via cricket for children and young people.

We are now seeking to identify a new Chair who can lead the Board of Trustees from September 2023 onwards. The successful candidate will have the following experience:

  • Passionate about the game of cricket and the positive impact that the sport can have on young people and their ability to play, learn and develop, and on promoting social inclusion generally;
  • Successful track record of senior strategic leadership, with a demonstrated ability to deliver in complex environments;
  • Proven experience of engaging successfully with others, building productive and collaborative working relationships with senior stakeholders and partners;
  • Excellent governance experience, ideally gained as a Chair of an organisation or of significant committees;
  • Ideally, previous experience gained as a Trustee of a significant charity, and an understanding of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of Trusteeship;
  • Well networked across the UK and beyond, with a demonstrated ability and enthusiasm to approach contacts to raise the profile of Chance to Shine and to support fundraising;
  • Experience of promoting and embedding diversity and inclusion at all levels;
  • Demonstrable commitment to the vision, mission and values of Chance to Shine.
