It’s not every day that you get to see one of your cricketing heroes Bollywood dancing in a school hall…
But then Yorkshire Tea National Cricket Week is no normal week. From today through to Friday we are visiting schools around the country and bringing some special guests with us.
Today we were in Sacred Heart Primary School in Battersea and had four international cricketers in tow, namely Charlotte Edwards, Heather Knight, Stuart Meaker and Graham Gooch.
We started off with a Spirit of Cricket assembly and soon learnt that every child in the school knew all of the words to Pharrell’s ‘Happy’. There was a little bit of disquiet when Sri Lanka emerged victorious in the bowl-out and it’s safe to say that we are all hoping the result won’t be repeated at Edgbaston tomorrow.
The week itself is Asian themed and today was a whirlwind of curries, Bollywood dancing, sitar playing and cricket. All of the ambassadors joined in and fully immersed themselves in the day. We practically had to drag Charlotte away from her curry session as it neared completion. Safe to say that she managed to pop back later to give it a taste test!
Despite the stars and activities on show, the undoubted highlight was seeing children throughout the school enthused by cricket. Faces like this make what we do worthwhile.
Tomorrow we are off down to Brighton beach for some cricket by the seaside. Yorkshire Tea National Cricket Week rolls on…
