Sir Donald Brydon, Chairman

Chairman of Sage Group plc, Sir Donald Brydon is the chair of the board of trustees for Chance to Shine.

Sir Donald Brydon was elected Chairman of Chance to Shine’s Board of Trustees in September 2014 and brings a wealth of experience to the charity.

Donald is currently Chairman of Sage Group plc and has recently conducted                                                                                                the Independent Review into the Quality and Effectiveness of Audit.

Donald has wide experience gained on the boards of a number of listed companies across a wide range of sectors, as well as his significant knowledge of the financial sector, gained from his time as Chairman and Chief Executive of both BZW Investment Management Ltd and AXA Investment Managers SA, and his role at London Stock Exchange Group.

Donald has been Chairman at: London Stock Exchange Group, Smiths Group plc, the London Metal Exchange, Taylor Nelson Sofres plc, Amersham plc, AXA Framlington Ltd and Royal Mail plc and is a former Director of Aberdeen UK Tracker Trust plc, Allied Domecq plc, AXA UK plc and Scottish Power plc.

Sir Donald received a knighthood in the New Year's Honours List 2019 for services to business and charity.

Dana Abdulkarim

Dana Abdulkarim is Associate Assistant Principal at Dinnington High School in Yorkshire and a former England rounders player.

Dana Abdulkarim is Associate Assistant Principal at Dinnington High School in Yorkshire, where she has played a key role in developing the PE and PSHE curriculum.

In 2000 Dana became the first Muslim and Arab woman to compete for England internationally, subsequently gaining 67 England caps in rounders. She also gained experience as an international rounders coach for the U13-19 age groups and supported the development of the UKCC Level 1 & 2 coaching materials. 

In 2008, she became the first Hijabi Muslim woman to qualify to teach PE in England, and became a trustee at the Muslim Women’s Sport Foundation in 2017, where she supported inclusion opportunities for the foundation.

Sir Danny Alexander

Former Liberal Democrat MP, Sir Danny Alexander is currently the Vice President of AIIB based in Beijing.

Danny joined the Liberal Democrats' shadow Work and Pensions team in 2005 and in July 2007 he was appointed Shadow Secretary of State for Work and Pensions. He gave this up in 2008 to concentrate on a new role as Chief of Staff to Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg and to co-ordinate the preparation of the Liberal Democrat election manifesto for 2010.

Danny was re-elected in the 2010 General Election. In the days after the result Danny led the Liberal Democrat team in negotiations which resulted in the formation of a Coalition Government. He played a key role in drawing up the detailed programme for government and was appointed Chief Secretary to the Treasury. 

Danny was the Member of Parliament for the Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch & Strathspey constituency from 2005 until the general election in May 2015.

Danny read Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Oxford University. After this, Danny worked as a press officer for the Scottish Liberal Democrats before spending four years at the European Movement and then four years as Director of Communications for the Britain in Europe campaign. In 2003 he was appointed the Head of Communications for the newly formed Cairngorms National Park Authority before being elected as MP for Inverness, Nairn, and Badenoch & Strathspey in 2005.

Danny is married with two daughters. His hobbies include hill-walking, fishing, cricket, travel and sports of all kinds.

Martin Darlow

Former Chief Executive at Bedfordshire Cricket, Martin Darlow is an ECB Cricket Non-Executive Director.

Martin retired from Bedfordshire Police as a senior detective in January 2012 having served for 32 years investigating major and serious crime. He also served as the policing commander for Luton and then Bedfordshire. He collaborated and then lead the joint Bedfordshire & Hertfordshire Professional Standards.

He is Chief Executive and a Trustee of the Bedfordshire Police Partnership Trust, a charity that improves and enhances the security of the homes of the elderly, vulnerable or people at risk from domestic abuse.

Martin was a Football League Match Official having operated at the top level of the game until 2006 but still referees locally.

He still pays cricket, is the Chairman of Southill Park Cricket Club, is a qualified cricket umpire, coach and still occasionally delivers Chance to Shine sessions and assemblies.

Anshu Jain

Anshu Jain is the President of Cantor Fitzgerald.

Anshu Jain is the President of Cantor Fitzgerald and has been a leader in the financial services industry for three decades. He was Co-CEO of Deutsche Bank from June 2012 to June 2015.

Anshu has received a number of accolades in recognition of his professional and other activities. In 2014, he was awarded an Honorary Fellowship from London Business School. He was named Global Indian of the Year in 2012 by the Economic Times of India and received a Lifetime Achievement Award from Risk magazine in 2010. Euromoney magazine, granted Anshu its Capital Markets Achievement Award in 2003. 

In addition, he is a wildlife conservationist, supporting wildlife charities in India and Southern Africa.

Will Lawes

Will Lawes is the Managing Director at investment banking firm Lazard.

Will Lawes joined Lazard, the global financial advisory and asset management firm, in January 2017 as Managing Director, Financial Advisory. He was previously a senior partner at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer since 2001. Prior to that he was co-head of the firm’s worldwide financial institutions group for six years. Will specialises in corporate governance, public bids, mergers and demergers, private acquisitions and disposals, joint ventures, restructurings and equity issues of all types, both in the UK and across borders. He advises a range of corporate, investment bank and financial institutions clients.

Will was educated at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand and Gonville & Caius College, Cambridge. He joined the firm in 1986 and has been a partner since 1994. He is a visiting fellow at the Centre for Corporate Reputation, University of Oxford.

Sophie O'Connor

Sophie O'Connor is a Non-Executive Director of Scottish Widows, Bupa Insurance and BNY Mellon International.

Sophie O'Connor spent 15 years at Bank of America Merrill Lynch after qualifying as an accountant with Ernst and Young. She is currently Non-Executive Director of Scottish Widows/Lloyds Banking Group Insurance, Bupa Insurance and BNY Mellon, and Trustee of MalariaNoMore UK. She has an MA in History from Cambridge University.

Sophie is married with three children, who are enjoying starting to play cricket at school and with their local club.

Alison Oliver

Ali Oliver is the Chief Executive at the Youth Sports Trust.

Ali is the Chief Executive at the Youth Sport Trust, an independent charity devoted to changing young people’s lives through sport.

Ali joined the Youth Sport Trust in 2004 and has fulfilled the roles of Implementation Director, Sport Director and Managing Director before becoming the CEO in July 2015. Prior to this Ali was the Deputy Director of Sport at the University of Bath having initially been the course leader for the initial teacher training programme for Physical Education. While at the University Ali worked on the English Institute of Sport Project and was the founder of the TEAMBath netball Franchise. Before this Ali was Head of PE at Millfield School, having started her career as teacher in Essex.

During her career Ali has worked with and on behalf of a range of other organizations. She supported the British Olympic Foundation’s education programme back in 2004 and delivered the Paralympic Inspiration Programme on behalf of the British Paralympic Association in London 2012. Ali led LOCOG’s Youth Panel, and is a member of the selection panel for the Young Sports Personality of the Year. She is currently a Board member of the PiXL Edge and an advisor to Sheffield Hallam University on their Sport strategy having previously sat on both the England Netball and Sport England Regional Boards. Ali has also worked on a number of international assignments including a project with Sport & Recreation South Africa which was part of the International Inspiration Programme.

Ebony Rainford-Brent

Ebony Rainford-Brent is a former England cricketer and is the Director of Women's Cricket at Surrey CCC.

Ebony Rainford-Brent is a former England cricketer and is the Director of Women's Cricket at Surrey CCC. Ebony joined the Chance to Shine board in May 2020.

Ebony grew up in south London and was given the opportunity to try cricket in primary school through the work of charity Cricket for Change. Despite serious injuries as a young player, Ebony continued to flourish in cricket and became captain of Surrey CCC.

Ebony played 29 times for England, playing in England's World Cup winning campaign in 2009 as well as being in the squad for the WT20I triumph in the same year. During her playing career, Ebony was a Chance to Shine coaching ambassador, inspiring hundreds of children to take up the game.

Since retiring from the game, Ebony has worked in the media, commentating on BBC Test Match Special and Sky Sports.

Kriti Sharma

Kriti Sharma is an Artificial Intelligence technologist and a leading global voice on AI ethics.

Kriti Sharma is an Artificial Intelligence technologist and a leading global voice on AI ethics and its impact on society. In addition to advising global businesses on AI, she focuses on AI for Social Good. She built her first robot at the age of 15 in India and has been building AI technologies to solve global issues ever since, from productivity to education to domestic violence. Kriti was recently named in the Forbes 30 Under 30 list for advancements in AI and was included in the Recode 100 list of key influencers in technology in 2017.

She was invited as a Civic Leader by the Obama Foundation Summit for her work in ethical technology. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, Google Grace Hopper Scholar and recently gave expert testimony on AI Policy to the UK Parliament in the House of Lords. Earlier this year, Kriti spearheaded the launch of the Sage Future Makers Lab, a forum that will equip young people around the world with hands-on learning for entering a career in Artificial Intelligence.

Kriti was appointed a United Nations Young Leader at the General Assembly in 2018.
