Ambassadors
There are many people who support us as ambassadors, from the worlds of business, sport, politics and entertainment. They all have the same desire: to give children the opportunity to play and be educated through cricket.
Here are just some of the endorsements that Chance to Shine has received:
Andrew Flintoff, England cricketer
England’s best loved and most recognisable cricketer, ”Freddie’s” heroics on the pitch has inspired many youngsters to take up cricket. His passion for the game is evident in his ‘never say die’ attitude and will to win.
“The Chance to Shine programme is unbelievable – giving kids that might not get a chance to play a go. I think if they find kids in the future who play County cricket or for England, that’s great. But just to see kids playing cricket and having the opportunity to do so is probably more important.”
Mervyn King, Governor of the Bank of England
President of Chance to Shine since 2005, Mervyn King first fell in love with cricket at Wolverhampton Grammar School. He says:
“Playing cricket at school taught me the importance of practice and team-work. Captaining a side on the field helped me significantly in my career in later years.
“I believe that cricket can play a unique role in the education of children. It is the ultimate team game that reaches across boundaries of gender, race and class, offering opportunity to all.”
Sir John Major, Former Prime Minister
“I am delighted to be an Ambassador for Chance to Shine. It is a remarkable campaign, which has performed exceptionally... We want young members of our communities to be fit not fat; socially inter-active as opposed to virtually inter-active; team players as opposed to gang members. Chance to Shine is already making a huge difference to many young lives – but there are many more who could benefit and we must continue to strive in that endeavour.”
